Refreshing Rain

I’m living in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is a place not that ready for too much rain, but in all fairness, it has improved the past years when it comes to improving its drainage system.

Flood usually happens after minutes or an hour of rain. It rarely rains here. Maybe once or twice a year. I won’t call it rain sometimes, just raindrops. Rain here usually signals the change of season.

It rained last Friday. It must now be winter. Not snowy kind of winter. =) Just cool winter, or the summer temperature in Europe. Temperature can range from 13-20 degrees Celsius. Hopefully.

If you live in a tropical country, you might not appreciate rain so much. You most likely, like me, will associate it with cancelled appointments, flood everywhere, and a watery doorway filled with dirty slippers or dripping umbrellas. Living in the desert, however, would make you dance in the sight of rain. People literally dance here under the rain sometimes out of fun. Students, most especially. Again, because it rains once or twice (blessed to reach –thrice) a year here. =)

Whenever it rains, I sometimes remember what my friend Butch said. He said that rain can bring:

  • Refreshment. It refreshes the polluted air. You can smell nature, the scent of earth at its purest.
  • Cleansing. It also washes away dirt. It makes us see things as it is. It removes what shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

Maybe there are no storms in our lives now. Just rain or raindrops that have caused us to drop some tears. =) Well, maybe we just need refreshment and cleansing. To be refreshed, to see things clearly. To see things without all the unnecessary dirt in our lives. =)

God refreshes his people. He says to come to him for rest.

In the light of a king’s face there is life, and his favor is like the clouds that bring the spring rain.  Proverbs 16:15

Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. James 5:7

  1. I love the rainy season! Yes, it is refreshing and cuddling up in bed is what I prefer to do during these days and having a hot soup or choco. We may never like the storm that it brings, but learning to accept the the things that came with it is a good way to display positivity and hope. Seems included in “this too shall pass”.
