The routine in our house changes from time. It all depends on the major activities happening in the day or that season.
This post was written when the kids were on vacation so this routine is for Summer (or when kids are on vacation). I’ll try to post another one for school time routine. I wonder when that would be posted. 😂
Food for the Spirit
I try to start each day by journaling. I devote a time in the morning to read God’s word the moment I wake up or for summer, it is usually before the kids wake up. It is a habit that has developed over time. There are still times that I don’t feel like reading, there are times that I am excited to read, but once the body has been trained to do it every day, then no situation can stop one from spending time with God.
Plus, the word of God is like food for the spirit that is alive in us, not feeding it makes one weak. A well-fed one can be steadfast in times of trials. 🤗 Once you see the need to learn from God every day, you just won’t let a moment pass without it. 😃
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and , so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. – Joshua 1:8night
I’ve always clung to this verse. It says the way to be successful:
- Meditate on it day and night.
- Careful TO DO (We don’t just read it. We do what it says)
- It will make our way prosperous.
- We will have good success.
Can a working person do it? Can a student do it? Yes! 😃
“But we’re busy, we don’t have time for that.”
If you have time for Facebook, for Twitter, for games, for gym, etc. then you certainly have time for God. 🤗 It also doesn’t happen overnight, it is a habit that has to be developed every day. 😃
Food For the Body
If I’m still a little sleepy, I usually make coffee and eat as I read and write on my journal. Again, the kids are on vacation so I get to enjoy extra time for myself before the chaos strikes in the house. This moment is like the “calm before the storm.” 😁
Enhancing Skills|Time to write
If I finish early and kids are still asleep, I get the dirty clothes and run the washing machine, I remove the dry ones to make room for the new ones that needs drying later. I cook rice that we are going to need for the whole day as well.
(I started writing this post in the morning and it is 5pm now and so many things have already happened. I realized, this post might have part 2 and 3. 😂) Thus, changing the title from Summer Routine to Summer Morning Routine. 🙂
Food for the Family
When kids see food on the table, it instantly diverts their attention from crying to cheering up.
Food-not just a way to a man’s heart, but to everyone’s.
I also prepare lunch (food up to dinner if possible) at this time as much as I can because once the kids are awake, everything becomes unpredictable. They will require your attention and it will be again, less stressful is you don’t have to worry about lunch or dinner when the kids are awake. You just have to re-heat it once they are ready.
Work & Play
When the kids are awake, they all eat breakfast and they play after that. If the youngest decides to play with them, it would be an easy morning because I can work on all my side hustles (@martymiggy and www.islesgilian.com) as they all play.
Unfortunately, this does not hapen all the time so I get stuck with him and so I try to maximize the time I am with him by playing with him and introducing new words to him. The whole morning until lunch time, the boys usually play and it sounds easy because they are playing and I can do whatever I want but no. 😁
Anyone who stays with kids knows that your name will be called every 20-30 minutes! These little ones will keep on asking for things, asking for help, crying here and there, arguing, looking for some unknown items, etc. In short, I am “on call” all the time. This is the reason why I’d rather start working on my important stuff when everyone is sleeping so I can do it without being distracted. 😄
So, what do I do during these times? Chores and any task that is okay to be stopped from time to time. 🙂
Food for the Soul
This is also my time to listen and catch up with my Udemy writing courses. So, as I fold or iron clothes, I either watch something informative or productive like preachings, courses, tutorials, etc.
There are also time that I intentionally don’t listen or watch as I do chores. This is because as we do chores, our thoughts actually think of our daily problems and that time of silence is the mind’s time to look for solutions. This quiet (not-so-quiet for me because kids are playing) or alone time is actually a time to reflect. You’ll be amazed at all the ideas pouring out during this time. Sometimes, there will be solutions to your problems that will be clearer during this time of quietness.
Around 12-1pm kids will eat. I usually eat along with them but sometimes, I eat a bit later when they are all done. Many things happen when kids eat together; spills, requests for more food, food falling down, endless things that I know moms can relate and so there are times I’d eat a little before they eat or just after they’re all done. Again, this is different for summer because I am in no pressure of sleeping or homework time.
That’s it for now for the morning. This is too long. There should be a separate one for afternoon and evening. 😂
Breathe. Writing this leaves me breathless already. 😂 There are still many things done in the morning that I’ve not included here.
This is a just a picture of my life as a mom in the morning (again fo summer, because it’s way different when there’s school 😂 or other seasons in my life).
It’s not perfect, every mom is different.
If you are a new mom and you are struggling to balance motherhood and life itself, just ask for wisdom from God and try to observe other moms. You don’t have to stick to their style. Try to get the ones that fit your lifestyle and personality.
I’m a bit of a combination of traditional and contemporary moms, I guess. I want to keep the traditional ways of how moms used to do it while adjusting it to the modern life around.
Being a mom is not easy and whether you are a working mom or a stay-at-home mom, it is your choice, you just have to make the best out of the choice you have made. 😃 Always look for support and inspiration from other moms from time to time because every season gives a different routine in your life as a mom. The way your routine works when your baby was months old will be totally different when they start walking or schooling. 🙂
