Don’t even go near the ‘beautiful’ fire.
Many attractive things deceive us every day. A great opportunity, a handsome or pretty face, a little fun, a small tempting taste of something wrong, and many more. The ‘little’ things, the ‘pretty little ‘ things that life can offer. Not all of them leads to life.
This morning, I read about how God sent different plagues to Egypt, because Pharoah, the ruler of the place, wouldn’t let God’s people go. The plagues were so devastating that every place, every house, was said to be full of frogs, then flies, then the people had boils. Picturing it out can be just unimaginable. There’s a place however, that the Lord spared. The land of Goshen. The place where God’s people were staying.
But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there, that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth. Exodus 8:22
Are we staying in our Goshen? Most of the time, there are situations and places where it’s obvious for us not to stay. We know deep inside that we shouldn’t even come near it or engage with anything in it. That’s God Spirit telling us to move as far away as possible because he wants to spare us from harm, from a broken heart, from a destroyed life. We often rush our way, moving as far as we can from that Goshen, a place God has provided for us so we’ll be spared from the pains and aches ahead. In the midst of disaster, God’s people were spared. We can experience the same thing, too.
Go back to that Goshen. God’s grace will give us strength to go back. No turning back.
God’s love for us goes beyond just giving us breath, or giving us work. When He sent his son, Jesus, as a ransom for our sin, so that we won’t go to hell and experience an eternal punishment, he meant more than just giving us a one day of freedom. He wants us to live our every day under His protection and care. So let’s stay in that ‘Goshen’, under God’s mighty protection. 🙂
